After months of speculation and negotiations, Floyd Mayweather vs Tenshin Nasukawa has been confirmed. The fight will take place on the New Year’s Eve at the Rizin 14 exhibition at the Saitama Super Arena.
Floyd Mayweather has made one thing very clear. For him, this three-round match against the Japanese kickboxing champion is for entertainment purpose only.
On the other side of the spectrum, for Nasukawa, this fight is as serious as it can get for him. We most certainly don’t blame his enthusiasm. It’s Floyd Mayweather we are talking about. People spend their entire life just to get a shot at the Money Man.
Nasukawa is definitely sitting on the edge of his patient as he looks forward to kicking Floyd Mayweather.
Unfortunately for both Nasukawa and kickboxing fans, the rules set by the committee prohibits Nasukawa form kicking. Nasukawa has taken a very short crash course from the world champion Linares to get himself in the groove of boxing and its rules.
Nasukawa on Tuesday after said – “I can change the world with my fist” after a demo at his family gym.
The one thing that stops him from doing that is the lack of pro status of this fight. Sure, he can try (and may succeed) to beat the living crap out of Floyd Mayweather, but it won’t count there will be no judges to make an official result.
What this means is the fight will not have any effect on either’s a professional career. Hence, the lack of seriousness from Floyd Mayweather.
After numerous failed attempts from the Nasukawa’s people, Floyd only made things official when the rules were clarified. This will be Mayweather’s first fight after his 50th win against Corner McGregor more than a year ago. That fight made his career record of 50 wins out of 50 matches. If everything goes according to plan, this will be his first fight in Japan.
Tickets are available for 100,000 yen (about $1,000) each at the Saitama Super Arena.
The only thing that Nasukawa and Floyd Mayweather has in common is the unbeaten record. Floyd Mayweather stands at an impressive 50-0 record whereas, Tenshin Nasukawa stands at a 27-0 kickboxer and 4 – 0 mixed martial arts record.
Other than that, both contenders are worlds apart when it comes to personality and fighting style.
Nasukawa mentioned he as never a fan of Mayweather and he is usually cheering the likes of Manny Pacquiao Fight. He also said he was really disappointed when he as Mayweather in person as he was not as charismatic as he would’ve thought.
According to his own words – “I sensed no aura about him. He says such provocative stuff I feel like kicking him.”
Nasukawa went as far as saying he can’t allow Mayweather to land a single punch on him. He plans on using kickboxing tips and tricks to avoid getting hit by his opponent.
With confidence Tenshin Nasukawa said –
“He is the best so I can’t let my guard down. I’m sure his punches are fast but I’m sure I can see them. I feel excited, although some days I still feel afraid. But when the day comes, I want to fight with confidence.”
